Now, We have arrived in the month of February which has sometimes 29 days and sometimes 28 days. So Let's Begin.
In order to understand why do We have leap year, first We have to understand how year is defined. A year is defined as the time taken by the earth to complete one revolution around the Sun. A day is defined as the time required by earth to rotate once on its axis.
Earth takes 365.25 days to complete one revolution around the Sun that means a year is 365.25 day. But In calendar We have only 365 days because We can't make day of 6 hours So The rest 6 hours is ignored.
These 6 hours goes on adding make day of approximately 24 hours, after 4 years which added in the month of February. That's why We have leap year after four Years.
If we do not have leap year, then we will waste 6 hours a year and 24 days in a century. It will effect the Season. After very long time We will Have Winter in month of May in Northern hemisphere.
How leap year is determined.
If Year is evenly divisible by 4 then it is leap Year.
If Year is divisible by 4 and 100 then it is not a leap Year, unless it is also divisible by 400.
